Market Timing: When Should You Sell?

There are three clocks running in any sale decision: the business clock (is the company at peak demonstrable performance?), the owner clock (are you personally ready to step away?), and the market clock (is buyer demand and credit availability favorable?).

The best outcomes come when at least two of the three clocks align. Trying to time the market alone — without operational momentum — usually backfires.

Right now, SMB buyer demand remains strong, especially from search funds and independent sponsors with committed capital to deploy. Sellers with clean financials and demonstrable growth are receiving multiple bids in 60–90 days.
